Florian Voggeneder
Since first being commissioned in 2018 to join the elite team of analogue astronauts in Oman for AMADEE-18, artist Florian Voggeneder has been integrated into the simulation of life and science on Mars. Voggeneder’s photographs are not however staged but capture the veracity of an analogue space mission as if it were actually taking place on Mars.
In these images, AMADEE astronauts are not only rehearsing for the far-off prospect of the human exploration of Mars, but they are also testing the viability of vital equipment such as spacesuits, shelter, sustenance, and communications. As our own planet faces the compound challenges of the climate crisis, these rehearsals could even prepare us for life on Earth. This awareness makes analog_artefacts all the more powerful.
